Realising plant-based solutions

Happy People

Each year, Aviko brings joy to around 3 billion tables worldwide. While consumers enjoy our products, our employees find meaning in their work. With craftsmanship and passion, they create not only the best potato products but also develop new plantbased alternatives. At the same time, we continuously seek more sustainable solutions and the use of plantbased proteins to reduce the CO₂ footprint of our products. Safe, responsible and innovative – this is how we create Happy People, within and beyond Aviko.

The potato is our plant‑based hero. We continue to strengthen our predominantly plant‑based portfolio by increasingly using the potato as an alternative to animal‑based ingredients. Together with our suppliers, we develop plant‑based variants of existing products, such as mashed potatoes without milk powder and gratins without cheese and cream. With these solutions, we make plant‑based eating more attractive and accessible, while keeping the footprint as low as possible. In collaboration with growers, suppliers, logistics partners and customers, we reduce emissions at every stage of the value chain. This reduction impact is translated to product level in the form of lower‑carbon alternatives.

Milestones in 2025

We offer plant‑based solutions across all product categories (such as gratins, purées and snacks)

Development of a Cosun‑wide, audit‑proof system for allocating renewable energy to products, with a verified product footprint

Based on this audit‑proof system, Aviko Rixona introduced lower‑carbon potato flakes produced using 100% renewable energy

In 2025, we launched the plant‑based One‑for‑All Gratin, which received the Superior Taste Award from the International Taste Institute

“In 2025, we took an important step at Aviko Rixona with the introduction of lower-carbon potato flakes and granules.”
Plant-based alternatives at Aviko

One-for-All Gratin – one plant-based solution for everyone

At Aviko, we develop plant-based alternatives across all product categories. We believe it is important to support our customers in making the transition towards more plant-based eating. The potato is our plant-based hero, and we proudly use it to make plant-based food more appealing.

In 2025, this resulted, among other things, in the introduction of a mashed potato without milk or butter, as well as a plant-based potato gratin. Fully fledged and more sustainable alternatives, offering the same functionality and taste as their classic counterparts.

SAMENWERKING ALS VERSNELLER

More sustainable innovations with validated lower CO₂ footprint

Demand for plant-based food ingredients with a lower CO₂ footprint is growing. Governments, customers and value-chain partners expect food producers to demonstrably reduce their environmental impact. This calls for both strong innovation capabilities and close collaboration across the value chain.

At Aviko, we are therefore working on the development of future-proof, plant-based ingredients with a lower CO₂ footprint. In 2025, Aviko Rixona took an important step with the introduction of so-called lower-carbon potato flakes and granules. With these future-proof ingredients, we support customers in achieving CO₂ reduction across the value chain (scope 3), without compromising on quality or functionality.

Working together

Collaboration with our customers is essential to achieving sustainability across the value chain. Our activities form part of each other’s Scope 3 emissions, which means that meaningful impact can only be achieved by working together.

The effectiveness of this collaboration was demonstrated in 2025 with the award of the Better Together Award from PepsiCo. This recognition highlights Aviko Rixona’s contribution to PepsiCo’s efforts to further reduce CO₂ emissions in the value chain. It reflects our shared ambition and close cooperation. A key example is the development of lower‑carbon potato flakes, reducing the overall carbon intensity of the chain.

In addition, Aviko organised a Sustainability Day in Rain am Lech for its key German customers. During this event, we shared our sustainability approach and explored new opportunities for collaboration across the value chain. A valuable starting point for taking concrete steps together towards structural sustainability.
